Apprenticeship Award for Ethan

Welding and fabrication apprentice, Ethan Webster, at Prior Power Solutions has been awarded “Apprentice of the Year” from East Coast College.

Studying at college one day a week with two days a week at the company, Ethan is learning a wide range of welding and fabrication skills required in industry. Now approaching the halfway point of his four-year Level 3 diploma in Welding and Fabrication, Ethan is “clearly thoroughly enjoying” his studies and work placement, says Chris Farman, Production Manager and Ethan’s supervisor.

Prior Power Solutions provides an environment and culture for its apprentices where they feel supported and are encouraged to make suggestions.

Chris continues, “Being an apprentice is important to Ethan as it means he can understand the practical side of his studies and how welding is undertaken in the workplace rather than the controlled environment of college – and how to make it work.

“Ethan is a very pleasant, practically-minded young person. He has developed quickly over a relatively short period of time and despite changes and uncertainty surrounding Covid and gained a lot of confidence without a doubt.

“Welding is an art. Whilst the theory and chemistry can be learnt in a classroom, applying it practically and understanding how metals react under different circumstances is a real aptitude.”

Primarily inspired by his father to undertake a career in welding, many of his family are employed in energy-related companies in the area.

“I can see the skills that are needed to support the energy industry and Great Yarmouth’s economy and I want to be a part of that” says Ethan. “I want to pursue my career at Prior Power Solutions and lean more skills – broaden my horizons – I am already gaining mechanical engineering experiences here.”

James Rix, Managing Director says, “We are delighted that Ethan has been recognised for his work and dedication to his studies and our company.

“Being able to provide apprenticeship placements is important to us as a business – to support the continued growth of the economy and diverse, and specialised, skills in Great Yarmouth for the ever-changing energy market.”
