Power solutions for a changing world

SUSTAINABILITY IN PRACTICE

Dedicated to adopting new ways of working to reduce both our environmental impact and that of our customers.

We are committed to supporting our customers achieve their sustainability ambitions by providing a range of lower-carbon options.

The power-driven equipment we supply to customers is designed and manufactured to operate as efficiently as possible by constantly evolving our practices to adopt new technologies and improvements to reduce carbon impact. The equipment we manufacture is built to last and we put ease of maintenance at the forefront of design which incorporates reduced maintenance waste and subsequent environmental impact.

Our modular build manufacturing processes allow for flexibility both during build and for the future of the unit as individual modules can be upgraded to suit the customers’ changing needs. It also allows for cleaner energy solutions to be added in the future without the need for full reworks of many of the unit’s systems and adds to the longevity of customer investments.

Where feasible we enable our customers to be an integral part of the circular economy through the refurbishment or repurposing of existing equipment including reconditioning engines.

Working with OEMs we support customers adopt the latest in clean engine technology as well as upskilling our engineers to service and repair hybrid and alternative-powered vessels as technology evolves.

Take a look at just some of the ways we are helping our customers reduce emissions, decrease waste and adopt new lower-carbon technologies:
Hydrogen Diesel Refuse Truck

Hydrogen-diesel introduction

Prior Power Solutions has introduced a hydrogen-diesel introduction system to the UK market.

Introducing hydrogen, produced on demand from deionised water, into diesel engines, the self-contained unit reduces the emissions of internal combustion engines by up to 80%

As well as reducing diesel fuel consumption by up to 14% the system also increases torque.

Long Service Interval Flame Trap

Long-service interval flame trap

Prior Power Solutions has upgraded the exhaust gas cooler on its nitrogen pumps meaning that standard 8-hour service intervals on the flame trap – laden with costly downtime, operator errors and risks, and consumables which are harmful to the environment – have been replaced with incredible 1,000-hour service intervals.

This saves 125 litres of chemical wash every 1,000 hours of operation.

Electric nitrogen pump

Electric-driven nitrogen pump

Prior Power Solutions has developed a revolutionary electric-driven nitrogen pumping unit.

It has been designed to meet the requirements of a carbon-conscious market and reduces overall environmental impact.

Utilising proven VSD drive technology, the electric driven LN2 unit offers exhaust-free operation, without compromising on operational efficiency or accuracy of control.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Prior Power Solutions undertakes the refurbishment of equipment and reconditioning of engines; extending their operational life and preserving valuable customer assets.

Embracing the circular economy also ensures the value of raw materials in the original equipment is maintained for as long as possible.

Just a few of the many ways we aid customers extend the life of equipment and preserve valuable resources is detailed below:
Reconditioned Engines

Engine reconditioning

Reconditioned engines have sustainability benefits as they are essentially reused and any components that cannot be reconditioned are recycled for their raw materials.

Reconditioned engines offer the perfect solution for circumstances when a model becomes obsolete or when the existing engine has failed but is the ideal fit for an application.

Our service team regularly reconditions engines for customers re-engineering any obsolete parts.

Cement Pump Refurbishment

Re-engineered unit

Our client’s offshore cement pumping unit was no longer operational and not fit for purpose for future projects.

Originally constructed on three skid frames we were commissioned to convert it to a dual skid to reduce environmental impact of future transportation as well as refurbish it to full working order.

Obsolete parts in the hydraulic drive system were also eliminated to reduce future waste.

Refurbished Enclosures Fibre Glass

Refurbished enclosures

Two pump enclosures destined for scrap were given new life with replacement fibreglass panels.

Reusing the existing DNV frame and other components wherever possible, the significantly corroded carbon steel panels were substituted with fibreglass.

The new enclosures will preserve the asset for the entire lifespan of the primary frame and is also lighter weight reducing transport associated environmental costs.

SUSTAINABILITY IN ACTION

Prior Power Solutions works actively to reduce its carbon footprint in its day-to-day activities.

We involve our employees every step of the way including through the Employee Engagement Committee and suggestion boxes around site. We encourage and nurture new ways of thinking to continually challenge the status quo, stimulate creativity, and inspire innovation particularly around sustainability.

Here is a snap shot of some of the sustainability measures we have recently implemented and embraced:
Ppe Recycling

PPE Garment Recycling

Working with a local company we are reducing our environmental impact through recycling our PPE.

Coveralls are shredded and turned into new garments and plastic PPE such as hard hats and safety glasses are made into plastic pellets to produce new plastic products.

“Whilst PPE is crucial, it’s sad that so much has typically been incinerated” says Production Manager Chris. “It’s great now that we have the ability to recycle our PPE.”

Composting Waste

Composting waste

Not only do we separate our compostable food waste in our kitchens and rest areas, but we compost onsite – reducing our carbon footprint even further by cutting out additional refuse collection.

Employees are also encouraged to fill a company-provided waste caddy at home and bring back for composting.

Parts Co-ordinator Richard says, “It’s great being able to put our home food waste to good use.”

Reduced Packaging

Reuse of packaging

Sending and receiving up to 1,000 parcels a month, our parts department uses a lot of packaging.

Much of this packaging is reused and where new is required we use recyclable options.

It’s not just about physical boxes when it comes to reducing waste as Storeman Stuart explains, “By using the smallest box necessary for the shipment we cut down on a huge amount of cardboard used.”

COMMUNITY WORK

Prior Power Solutions’ employees’ interests are at the heart of its community support.

What matters to them, matters to us.

Responding to ideas put forward by our employees, here are some of the community initiatives we have delivered:
Community Accessible Aed Great Yarmouth

Community-Accessible AED

As a volunteer emergency community responder, our Quality, Health, Safety & Environment Manager, Daniel is all too aware of the life-saving importance of AED’s.

In response to his request, a company-funded AED was installed on our premises giving the business and residential community around us 24/7 access.

Scouts

First Aid Training for Scouts

Service Administrator Xena wanted help for the Scout unit she volunteers with.

Our QHSE Manager Daniel was able to deliver the one-day emergency first aid training for unit’s Explorer Scouts meaning they not only achieved their First Aid Badge but also gives them a valuable addition to their CVs.

Donation To James Paget Hospita

Donation to James Paget Hospital

Our storeman Matthew instigated a charity fundraiser to support children and staff at our local hospital.

Employees raised money through a draw to buy Christmas gifts for the children’s ward as well as tasty treats for staff on the emergency wards at the hospital who were working over the festive period.
