Cleaner diesel and alternative power

As the energy transition gains momentum, the need for alternative and sustainable power systems, products and services grows.

Whilst we continue to support customers with traditional diesel-powered products, as a company we are committed to developing cleaner diesel and alternative power products to support customers transition to greener power sources.

Working with academia, manufacturers, and customers we are developing cleaner diesel, electric, hybrid and hydrogen-powered products to meet this need.

Already adapting equipment to operate with cleaner Stage V diesel engines, now mandatory in many settings, we have undertaken considerable R&D into electrically driven equipment including electrically-driven nitrogen pumps and hydraulic power units.

Ultimately, we see hydrogen as a key component of the future energy mix, and we are undertaking exciting research and development in the field of hydrogen-injected diesel engines and hydrogen fuel cells. As we collaborate with Manchester Metropolitan University and the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre for this, we are visibly demonstrating our ability as a British manufacturer to adapt to and embrace change and we invite you to be a part of this change with us.

HYDROGEN

Our engineers are looking at different approaches to utilising hydrogen as a power source.  The self-contained Hydrogen/Diesel Introduction system which is retrofitted to traditional diesel engines produces hydrogen on demand and significantly reduces overall emissions. Additionally, we are in the early stages of hydrogen fuel cell technology with the Manchester Fuel Cell Innovation Centre.

CLEANER DIESEL

Prior Power Solutions is integrating the latest low emission diesel engines using cleaner diesel technology into the equipment we manufacture. CE regulations state that Stage V engines should now be used. We also offer products aimed at reducing emissions such as Selective Catalyst Reaction (SCR) and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF).

ELECTRIC

Our range of products can be designed to be powered by electric motors as opposed to diesel engines. Having undertaken considerable research and development, our electrically powered nitrogen unit utilising proven VSD drive technology and our self-contained electric 40kW Hydraulic Power Unit provide exhaust-free operation without compromising on operational efficiency.

HYBRID

We are also committed to research and development into hybrid power systems. Hybrid power comprises of combinations of different technologies to produce power. In power engineering, the term ‘hybrid’ describes a combined power and energy storage system for example diesel and electric.

GAS

Work is being undertaken at Prior Power Solutions to integrate gas engines with our product range. Running on gaseous fuels such as compressed natural gas, landfill gas or biogas, gas engines have lower emissions through CO2 output and often have lower running costs yet are just as productive and efficient as traditional diesel-powered engines.

DUAL FUEL

Combining diesel, including biodiesel, and hydrogen, dual fuel power solutions are available for a multitude of applications and generate more power from less fuel. The self-contained Direct Hydrogen Introduction System, incorporating a Hydrogen-on-demand generation system, reduces emissions on internal combustion engines with hydrogen produced from distilled water.
