Celebrating over four decades in business

As Prior Power Solutions marks four decades in business, Business Development Manager Matt Dack, one of the team’s longest-serving colleagues reflects on some of the changes over the last few decades:

“From slogans to company mission statements, rebrands to merchandise like mugs, rulers, coasters, and clocks, and even the change of colour of the office walls, I have seen it all.

“Prior Diesel was born in 1980 and operated from a small quayside unit within George Prior Engineering’s ship building and repair premises on South Quay in Great Yarmouth with shared facilities.

“I have personally seen the company grow from strength to strength since I joined it back in June 1990 when there were approximately 15 staff. Today there are around 70.

“Expansion was inevitable, and we moved into an impressive purpose-built facility shortly after I joined the company. We moved during a recession and I distinctly remember thinking “wow, how are we going to fill this workshop with business, it’s massive” – but it turned out to be great foresight – our yard and workshops are full and thriving with work.

“I have very fond and distinct memories of our grand open day back in December 1991.

“Having survived the recession, we eventually outgrew our new facility, and even further expansion was required.

“So, the company was faced with procuring land, and building another two workshops, behind and adjacent to the existing plot with more offices and facilities for testing etc.

“Developing and managing to keep the growing business as a whole on one sealed site where we still operate from today was a very important factor and key to the development stage of us being a British manufacturer.

“There are so many pivotal points in the 40 plus years of trading that I can remember that has enabled us to provide the portfolio of products and services that we do today.

“Having undertaken a name change and complete rebrand last year during a global pandemic was a bold, but significant move for us.

“It was important for us to secure our position in the global energy market going forward and for our name and brand to accurately represent the range of power solutions we now provide.

“And cue more merchandise – snoods of all things I see now!

“But on a sensible note, not only do we cater for diesel driven solutions, but also alternative and cleaner driven solutions such as electric, hydrogen and hybrid to support a sustainable future for us all.”
