New Grimsby base enhances offshore wind support

Prior Power Solutions, a specialist in power systems and marine engineering services, has announced the opening of a new operational base in Grimsby, marking a strategic expansion to support the region’s fast-growing offshore wind and marine industries.

The new Grimsby facility will focus on delivering service, maintenance, and parts supply for the Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) supporting offshore wind operations in the North Sea. The expansion builds on Prior Power Solutions’ 45 years’ experience in the marine sector and aims to increase local capacity to keep vessels operational and minimise downtime.

Grimsby was selected for its many strategic advantages, including its position as one of Europe’s leading offshore wind operations and maintenance hubs. Its proximity to major offshore wind projects including Hornsea, Triton Knoll, and Dogger Bank also sees a high demand for crew transfer vessel support services.

An already well-established marine infrastructure, with dedicated offshore wind facilities, a offshore wind training centre, vessel berthing, and lifting capacity also enables the rapid turnaround needed for vessel servicing and repair.

James Rix, Managing Director of Prior Power Solutions, commented:

Grimsby is a powerhouse for the UK’s offshore wind industry, and we’re excited to establish a permanent base here. These new premises will allow us to deliver the fast and efficient response demanded by operators and fleets working out of the port.”

The new base is also a collaboration with local businesses and agencies: Grimsby-based Bacon Engineering Group, providing bespoke fabrication and engineering services and the Port of Grimsby East including a boat hoist for vessels up to 200 tones through Grimsby Shipyard Services.

David Bacon, Managing Director of Bacon Engineering Group said:

We’re proud to support Prior Power Solutions’ arrival in Grimsby. By working in partnership, we’re offering a new, more comprehensive marine support service in what is a vital Operations and Maintenance hub for the UK’s offshore renewables industry.

This will not only strengthen the local marine supply chain but also help support the continued growth of the offshore sector in our region.”

Martyn Boyers, CEO of Port of Grimsby East, added:

This is a great example of how Grimsby continues to attract investment by offering the right infrastructure and access to one of the busiest offshore wind sectors in Europe. Prior Power Solutions’ vast expertise brings significant added value to our port community and the offshore wind industry being serviced from here.”

The Grimsby base is now fully operational and supporting marine customers in the region. Prior Power Solutions is an authorised dealer for Volvo Penta, Cummins, Rehlko (Kohler) with additional experience of Scania and CAT engines.
